“Valve Job” is such a critical foundation for the overall foundation of the cylinder head. We spend countless hours researching the angles that benefit the stock ports maximum benefit. We spend time hand finishing under the seat on the intake side to grab those last few extra CFM. Every head is then surfaced for flatness (up to .010” per the customer’s request) to ensure our MLS head gasket will seal as it should. Heads are thoroughly cleaned, inspected, valve seats are formed, valve faces renewed and assembled with high temperature viton seals. 1.650 window

Combine the above Stage 1 service, 1.810 oversize intake valves, new bronze guide liners to tighten up the valve to guide tolerance & a premium .600” spring pack set to the cams spec. Bowl blending will extend down further beneath the seat in the critical areas. Stem protrusion and seat pressures will be tailored to your cam to ensure maximum longevity on your hot rod street bike. This is hands down the best choice for your everyday rider on a budget-- Balanced HP & TQ results without sacrificing and losing the port velocity with the huge valves found in the bigger builds. 1.650 window

Exactly what the title says, when you’re building that larger CI motor and want the results on the left side of the scale this is your choice. We knock the original guides out of the way to ensure we have access to port every inch, where it counts in the port. Replaced with premium bronze guides sized to control that valve as it should be, new premium valves 1.850” both intake and 1.610 exhaust. The factory intake seat does not allow for safe installation of a 1.850 valve (in our opinion) therefore they are replaced to ensure trouble-free service. 1.780 window

Building the biggest bore street / strip motor, this is your pick! We install oversize intake seats to accommodate a 1.900 valve to grab every CFM possible out of a 1.780 window. This requires the replacement of the intake seats to accommodate that huge valve.

*This service is great for the street, but if you’re using Thunderstorm castings and building a track bike it’s highly recommended you step up the Stage 3 service. The exhaust port needs major surgery to get them to really perform, that cannot be done with the stock guides in the way. To get them to really breath we recommend the Stage 3.

This is the service that has put XLXBhorsepower on the map, by far the best ‘bang for the buck’ for your everyday ride. The ports are so small on these heads there is no room to port the head with the guides in your way. We knock the stock guides out, perform the Stage 2 port, assemble with new bronze guides while retaining your stock valves 1.530” / 1.350” and assembling with a premium .600 Beehive spring pack. Stem protrusion and seat pressures will be tailored to your cam to ensure maximum longevity on your hot rod street bike.

This is the best choice if you have or are in the middle of doing an 883/1200/1250 ‘conversion’ with a dished piston. The key point to consider in this case is the dished piston relies on the stock cc of the chamber, so the valve size cannot change without losing compression. 1.650 window

Taking the 883 casting to the next level with 883/1200 ‘Conversion’ valves 1.715” / 1.485” to gain the additional flow the Stage 2 port leaves on the table due to the restricted valve size. The increased valve size of Stage 3 requires an increased chamber size, this service must be selected carefully as it may require a piston change. 1.650 window

Stage 4 - $1,595

This service is for the professional builder. Understanding TDC and how to check it with solid lifters is a must for the assembler, this is not something we can do or setup before the heads are mailed. If you don’t have the means to check TDC this service isn’t suggested.

Serious street on steroids, we found some additional flow with an even larger intake valve 1.850” paired with the 1.610 exhaust. This requires the replacement of the 2 intake seats to ensure years & miles of trouble-free service. This is the go-to Hooligan head used with a flat top piston. Hooligan racers don’t need the ‘HP’ they need the ride-ability to get out of the corner quick (mid-range torque (TQ)) and still race down the straight aways. Perfect with a flat top (fly cutting the piston is sometime necessary depending on your cams TDC) Killer TQ head with a 1.780 window.

Early 1200 (88-03) / Buell Lightning (97-older) & Dual Plug Sportster Sport all have the same port and valve configuration 1.715 / 1.485. We knock the stock guides out, perform the Stage 2 port, assemble with new bronze guides, new 1.715 intake valves and new 1.480 exhaust valves- assembling with a premium .600 Beehive spring pack. Stem protrusion and seat pressures will be tailored to your cam to ensure maximum longevity on your hot rod street bike. This is a street head, never meant for the race track, if you have these castings and plan on racing it is a must to step up to Stage 4. Stage 2 is purposely positioned to accommodate the stock seats for this casting to keep cost down. 1.650 window

*Our suggestion is to sell the 88-03 1200 castings, then start your project with an 883 or XB. The full Hemi 67cc chamber on the 88-03 1200 casting is honestly not the best choice for any Hi-Performance application. We can make the Lightning / Dual Plug Sport work due to the factory 10° squish band smaller 62cc chamber for the performance minded build.
